Creator Q&A: Michelle Norris ||

Tropico Photo

Meet the Atlanta-based photographer, art director, and co-owner of Tropico Photo.

Q: How did you get started as an art director and photographer?

A: My husband Forrest Aguar and I met in the photography program at UGA and found ourselves inspired by similar work. After graduation, we began to collaborate on photography projects together while he was a photo assistant.

After assisting a photographer in Athens for a time, I moved to Atlanta and became a stylist assistant. Each of us continued assisting and learning about the commercial photography industry for the next couple of years. Three years ago we decided to officially merge our work together into Tropico Photo and we moved into shooting full-time. The transition felt daunting, but as we continued to grow our personal work and share it with the world, work started rolling in.

Q: What have been some of the most fun and inspiring projects/collaborations you have worked on?

A: Early last year we shot a personal project called Big Sun that we worked on with an awesome team in Atlanta. It was a big undertaking and our set painters, stylists, videographer, and beautiful pieces by Megan Huntz really helped make it magical. You can see the full credits HERE on our website.

In the past few months we've been shooting some furniture pieces from our close friends at Silt Studio. It's been a great opportunity to swap ideas with them and try new things.
